Hi Mark,
Did you soft reset the device after the module finished? Looks like the cache was not flushed after the file system was modified.

Go to Settings > ScanDisk and check the option for fixing the FAT tables, it is disabled by default.

The card order is based on the order in which they were loaded (their device drivers actually). But the list can be sorted alphabetically so that will be done in the next release.

Anton

Hi Anton,
Yes I did the soft reset after the module “fixed” the broken directories the first time. I’ve set the option for fixing the FAT tables. Good to hear you have a solution for the card order. I’ve accidentally picked the wrong card numerous times assuming they were is the same order as before.
Mark

Mark, is your device running WM2003? The application should not ask you to soft reset on WM5 and up…

We will upload a new build (with enabled log file) later today.

Ok after investigating with our team we found the problem - due to an overlooked line of code (variable not initialized properly) directory issues detected have been written to an incorrect cluster/sectors number.

The programmer in charge has been punished and won’t be allowed to play video games for an entire week.

The new beta (v1.0.4) is on the server. All v1.0.3 users please urgently upgrade to v1.0.4.

Sorry about all the hassle caused!

Hi Anton,

Bad news on the 1.0.4 WM6 cab. When I try to launch WDRM I get an error “wdrm” is not a valid Pocket PC application”. I also noticed the Start menu icon is the generic icon not WDRM’s.

Mark

Mark, how big is the .CAB file you have? Should be 2127KB. Mine works fine, please try clearing your browser’s cache and re-download.

Hi Anton,
I’m running WM6.1 on my x51v. Whenever ScanDisk fixes errors, it wants to soft reset the device.
Mark

Mark can you please check the value of the following registry key:

HKML\Software\Wizcode\Data Recovery\Profiles\Default\FATHelperConfig\UnmountVolumes

It should be “1”.

Hi Anton,
The first cab was 2127KB. I cleared the cache and re-downloaded. The new download was 2127KB. Installed it with the same results.

The registry key you asked me to look at is set to 1.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
An uneeded .DLL file (the Unformat worker) was left by accident in the .CAB file, perhaps it was causing the issue. I removed it, reuploaded the .CAB files again (the correct file size is now 2027KB). Please give it another try. Let me know if ScanDisk / Undelete ask you to soft reset again, this should hot happen on WM5/WM6 devices. WDRM is now able to sync the caches without soft-resetting on WM5 and up.

Thanks for all the feedback! We are going to release another build today as the functionality that saves lost clusters to files (“FILExxxx.CHK” in the root folder) is not working very well. Previously we used some native file system APIs to do some tricks but now because we unload the file system before modifying the card that does not work very well. So we have to duplicate some of the native functions like CreateFile(), DeleteFile() etc and write them ourselves.

My FAT problem was also solved!  I still have the issue of automatically fixing broken directories wiping out the files on my card however.  Why would fixing them one at a time work but checking the box “apply to all” and fixing that way cause the files on my card to dissapear?

Hi Magellan,
Do you have any running applications that could be modifying files on the card? I had a similar situation with SPB Diary that was repeatedly saving files on the storage card and ScanDisk was always reporting inconsistency. Denying access to the storage card was solved for WM5 and up devices but the issue is still present on WM2003. Try disabling any running programs or today screen plug-ins and see if that will change anything. If you are willing to run a debug build (in read-only mode) please email me, I will respond with it. Thanks!

Hi!

What about Undeleting files from internal storage card?

Data Recovery Mobile can recover deleted files from a storage card if that was your question.

I mean to recover deleted files from internal storage card where the windows folder is.

Files that are stored in the \Windows folder are either ROM files (that cannot be deleted anyway) or files in RAM. Files in RAM cannot be recovered.

Anton
i just install new cab file , all okay
now i go to Scan Disk and it does not reconise my sd card which is a 8GB Kingston
i go to Pocket Mechanic and this finds my card like normal .
daak

daak, I will email you with a debug build that will produce a log file. Which version do you need, is it the WM6 one? I am assuming Undelete does not see the card as well, right?

Anton

Anton
  i await this debug build
thanks
daak

Hey daak,
I did not send a debug build because we fixed the issue shortly after several people (including you) reported it.

Major update - v1.0.7

Hello,
We released a major update to WDRM today. The new v1.0.7 fixes many critical issues that were causing corruption of dir entries before. All native file system APIs have been replaced with our own so we no longer depend on the file system at all. Lost clusters are not successfully converted to files in the root folder. WM2003 devices no longer need to be rebooted after modifying the file systems on storage cards. Directory entry checks and fixes have been enhanced to detect and correct wrong creation, modification and last access times, invalid characters in their short names, invalid size and file clusters.

The new release can be downloaded from our servers (check the link at the beginning of this thread).

Next release will contain the Unformat module enabled (we will probably release it tomorrow).

All your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Anton

Ok A couple of things…

1) I am using 1.00.007.  I am running Scandisk on my CF card.  It is an 8 Gb Sandisk Extreme III card.  Windows XP and Norton’s both said that there weren’t any error on the CF card.  I started to run Scandisk about an hour ago, and it is just sitting at the point shown in the attached Screenshot.  I have stopped Scandisk a couple of times now and restarted it.  It keeps getting to this point and then it just stops.  The STOP isn’t greyed out, but the other two are greyed out.  My PDA is a HP iPAQ HX2795 (WM5.0).  How long should this take?  I have the options checked:  Fix issues found and Ask before fixing an issue.

2)  Looking at the attached screenshot, you notice that the report out doesn’t help much:  Broken dir entry 1/1882178 of folder \Prog…  You can’t scroll to the right to see more of the filename, nor can you click on it bring up the full message.  It would be nice to be able to see the whole filename somehow.

You can expand the column by dragging it’s divider up in the table header. If you double click the divider the column will auto expand to fit the text. The errors you are getting do not look right. Can you please email me at supportATwizcodeDOTcom and I will send back a debug build that will produce a log file. Please do NOT FIX the errors until I have a look the log file. Many thanks!

Ok, I just eamiled you.

For the column width, if you look at the screenshot, there are no dividers in the header where I can drag anything.  I just tried clicking (and double clicking) at the point between the header and the scrollbar, but nothing changed.

You should click on the right corner of the column header - it is a bit tricky to get used to but works. This is a standard windows behavior by the way. I will see if we can make the code automatically resize columns when new lines are inserted.

Has there been any activity on the issues that I reported?  I am still waiting for the debug build that should have been sent to me.

Hi thejbfamily,
We will release an updated version of Data Recovery Mobile in the next 48 hours. We fixed a few issues in ScanDisk including one that was causing the application to crash in some cases. We will also release a beta of a standalone ScanDisk application as well and another application called Defragment Mobile that is based on our new defragmenter code (v2 vs. v1 used in Pocket Mechanic).
