I have a Pharos GPS 535e PDA running Windows Mobile 5. It is also running a Forest Service application that by default saves data to a 2 GB SD-CARD as \Storage Card\ which it doesn’t recognize since the SD-CARD is “named” SD-MMCard. The PDA is also running Virtual Explorer. I found a thread somewhere which suggested that to solve this problem the registry needed editing such that the key folder value for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory should be changed to Storage Card. Some additional changes to registry key folder values were suggested as well.

My question is this: I can navigate without any problem in Virtual Explorer to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory. However, I can’t figure out what to do next (i.e. how to edit the key folder value) in Virtual Explorer. Please advise if editing the key folder value is possible and if so, how so.

Thanks.

Update to original post: problem solved, although not with Virtual Explorer. Registry key needed to be tweaked which was done with PHM Regedit.

April 2nd 2009 - Wizcode LLC is working on a brand new version of Pocket Hack Master, the best selling Windows Mobile speed boosting/performance optimization utility and winner of the SmartPhone and PocketPC Magazine's Best Software Awards 2008.
The new product has plugin-oriented architecture that consists of the core Pocket Hack Master engine and a number of plugins providing low-level control for the different processors supported. The main advantage of the new architecture is the possibility to support many different CPUs and still keep the product stable and maintainable. Currently the major challenge standing in front of Wizcode's development team is adding support for the new unsupported processors like the PXA310 and the Qualcomm MS7200. Having a modular structure is the first step in making Pocket Hack Master support the new chips.

The expected beta release for the new product will be no later than July 2009. Wizcode will release a SmartPhone version of Pocket Hack Master v5 as well.
In the meanwhile any suggestions of feature requests will be very welcome by our team. Do not hesitate to send us a message!

Hi Anton
Need urgent help
I am using San Disc 16 GB Micro SHDC and recently it went berzerk and i couldn’t write or delete anything from it. I ran Pocket Professional and it read - FAT Tables mismatch. i then downloaded demo version of Scan Disk and checked for Disk errors….
as Guessed, it said FAT Tables mismatch and gave option to correct it. I checked 1st option….i think keeping Work FAT tables as master…..ne ways, i started this yesterday night at 9 pm and it has completed only 30% till now (16 hrs). It says time left is “1 day 1 hrs”. It has synchronized 1210 sectors out of total of 3797 sectors.
My question is -
1. Is it normal to take such a long time to correct FAT tables.
2. Can i stop it and resume again later and it will start from Sector 1211. Reason is, i will rather run it every night and stop it in the morning, so as to use phone for normal operations in the morning and run Scan Disk in the night
3. Is their any desktop application, which can do it much faster.
4. What all should i do with the Memory Card after synchronizing - format, fragment, defragment etc to ensure smooth running henceforth

sorry for a longish post, but i am too confused and concerned for loosing 16 GB of data and memory card

~

Ok we receive abusive message often but since I took my time to personally respond to this one I wanted to share it with the remaining users:

> Message: The most idiotic software to ruin your storage-card.
> If the guys were not idiots to make such a software, i would say it’s a
> ripoff to make you buy newer cards, cause you ‘ll quickly destroy your
> present card.
> There’s no need for defrag on flash memories or any kind of storage-cards.
> Subject: Idiotic software ripoff
> Contact email: zeno at comhem dot se

My response follows below:

Hi Zeno,
Thanks for your message. I don’t think we are idiots at least my own 20 years of expertise in the field tells me we are not.

Although storage cards do not have movable parts they still benefit from defragmentation because:

1) Storage card memory is not RAM. Storage cards are always accessed in blocks of several kilobytes. So to read even 1 byte you have to read the entire block. When files are contiguous access is faster because they are block aligned. If you have a 3K file that occupies 6 clusters 512 bytes each in different locations on the card the block driver will have to read 6 blocks from the memory card. If the file is contigious all blocks will likely be read in one single block.

2) Fragmented file systems cannot be easily recovered with data recovery software. It is a good idea to keep your files defragmented in case anything bad happens and you decide to undelete files or scandisk the storage card.

So with all my respect to the posts you mentioned I do not think we are such an idiots you are making us look like.

Best regards,
Anton Tomov

If anybody wishes to comment I will be happy to start a discussion on the topic.

Cheers,
Anton

I am happy to announce that we’ve made significant progress with our new data recovery application. So far we have fully implemented and tested:

1. ScanDisk - repairs logical FAT errors, recovers lost cluster chains, fixes directory entry problems. Checks for bad sectors and recovers data from bad sectors.

2. Undelete - recovers deleted files from storage cards.

We are in the process of implementing the 3rd module:

3. Unformat - recovers files from formatted / severely damaged volumes.

The beta will be released in days. Stay tuned!
